Ancestor Approved

Wow, am I honored.

I just received an Genea-Blogger Award, the “Ancestor Approved” Award! It was from Jenny Lanctot at Are My Roots Showing Blog. Thank you Jenny.

Ancestor Approved was started by Leslie Ann at Ancestors Lived Here. The rules say that I’m supposed to share 10 things about my ancestors that have surprised, humbled, or enlightened me, and share this award with 10 other bloggers.

There are “rules” about this award. One of the rules is that I must post a list of questions to answer, which I haven’t done yet. I will. There other is to Pass the award along to other Genea-Bloggers.

Now, this is a tough, as most of the Genea-bloggers that I follow already have this award. But, here goes and not in any specific order:

Elizabeth Powell Crowe at Crowe’s Nest by Eliabeth Powell Crowe. I learned about Libby while listening to another leader in the Blogging community, Dear Myrtle. Libby was a guest on Dear Myrtle’s Podcast.

Randy Seaver at Genea-Musings. What a gentleman. I have had the honor of meeting Randy and read his Blog several times again. I look up to him as a leader and mentor in the wonderful world of Genea-Blogging.

Tammy Altonen Schenekl at Genealogy – It All Starts Somewhere. Her introduction to her blog I can really get into. It says, in part, “The larger my tree gets, the more questions I get; this leads to more research! I love it! That is what genealogy is about – solving mystery after mystery. ”

Carol at Reflections from the Fence.. The picture on her Blog has my attention. To be able to pick up and travel around the country … not going to happen, so I will do that here, by sharing my parents travel around the country, but is a much smaller vehicle. Oh, I do read her blog.

Dear Myrtle at DearMYRTLE’s Genealogy Blog . Need I say more. I have had the honor of meeting Dear Mytle and Mr. Mrytle, “talk” with them weekly in Second Life, and am currently working on a special project with her.

Gini Webb at Ginisology. What can I say about Gini .. well, because of this blog, Gini and I have found that way are related. But, have you read her introductions to other Genea-Bloggers on the Genea-Blogger website.

My list wouldn’t be complete with this list of Genea-Bloggers:

* footnoteMaven
* Moultrie Creek
* Miriam
* Kathryn Doyle
* Thomas MacEntee

Please visit these Blogs and leave them a comment. I have learned from each of them.

    Thanks Russ, always an honor to be recognized by your peers!

  2. Thank you, Russ. And may I say that this Alaskan-born-and-raised girl has been enjoying your Alaska Cruise postings!

    • Mariam – Wow. I am working on putting pictures on these. My mom took pictures as did my dad. Scanning some pictures is the Plan of the Day. My family is going to take a Disney Cruise in May. Can’t wait.

      Thank you,

  3. Greetings,
    I just realized the ‘thing’ in your profile picture is a boom…duh! I shouldve known that as we own a sailboat and sail on the Chesapeake. I should say that my husband sails – I just go along for the ride.
    Best wishes for 2011.

  4. Russ,
    Thanks very, very much for the award. I’m taking the opportunity to acknowledge other genealogical societies that started blogs in the past year. Thanks for thinking of me!

    That old girls no Mona Lisa more American Gothic.The idea behind the Ancestor Approved Award is to highlight excellent blogging from the genealogy community and challenge those so recognized to list 10 things we have learned in their course of our ancestral research that have surprised humbled or enlightened us. If it turns out that they were more complex human beings with and – in other words that they were human – we have an obligation to treat them . I am the beneficiary of women in my family who have been keepers of the genealogical record for their own lines and those of their husbands for many generations.
